We provide many services for pregnant women and women contemplating pregnancy in the future. Sometimes we provide basic ultrasounds and screening tests to ensure your pregnancy is “normal.” In other instances, your primary care provider may suspect a maternal or fetal abnormality and ask for our recommendations on managing the pregnancy. Below are some of the common services we provide.  

Co-management of Maternal Complications of Pregnancy

  • Pre-gestational diabetes
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Advanced maternal age (>35 years young)
  • Chronic hypertension
  • Preeclampsia
  • Thyroid disease
  • Heart disease (congenital or aquired)
  • Genetic abnormalities/syndromes (ie: Marfan syndrome, Fragile X, SMA, etc.)
  • Neurologic diseases (Seizure disorders)
  • Hematologic diseases (history of blood clots, bleeding disorders)
  • History of preterm labor and preterm birth
  • Cervical insufficiency
  • Recurrent miscarriage
  • History of fetal demise

Counseling

  • Nutritional counseling
  • Diabetic counseling
  • Preconception counseling 

Fetal abnormalities or malformations

  • Abnormal screening for genetic aneuploidy (Down syndrome or other trisomies)
  • Abnormal screening for Spina Bifida
  • Fetal central nervous system abnormalities
  • Gastroschisis/Omphalocele
  • Markers for genetic abnormality (echogenic cardiac focus, echogenic bowel, pyelectasis, shortened long bones, etc.)
  • Thickened nuchal translucency or nuchal fold
  • Multiple gestations (twins, triplets, etc.)
  • Twin-twin-transfusion syndrome
  • Genito-urinary tract abnormalities
  • Heart defects 

Procedures/Diagnostic tests

  • Detailed fetal ultrasound or “Genetic” ultrasound
  • Fetal echocardiography
  • Fetal Doppler studies
  • Amniocentesis (genetic, fetal lung maturity, or amnioreduction)
  • Chorionic villus sampling (CVS) 

Genetic counseling

  • With a certified genetic counselor +/- MFM
  • Family history of genetic abnormalities/syndromes
  • Inherited diseases
